Sports Premium Funding

September 2018-19

At Worksop Priory C of E Primary Academy, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year for the next two years – here at Worksop Priory C of E Primary Academy that will mean around £18,030 a year. The money is ring-fenced for sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of the funding

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

This means that we should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Rationale for 2018-19 spend

Quality of provision and impact continues to be high as a result of prior spending. The rationale therefore is that we continue to invest in the participation of children in a wide range of sports, competitions and events. The planned expenditure to ensure this happens is listed below:

Planned Expenditure     Amount
Costs associated with travel to sporting fixtures and events £2000
Planning time and supply cover for children on sporting events £8208
Awards, rewards and trophies £250
Lunchtime sports leader £2,100
Subscription to Bassetlaw School Games, 2018-19 £995
Provision of 1 term of coaching to each child Reception to Y6 (£25 each) £5075
Total £18,602

We are very proud of our P.E. and sporting achievement here at Priory. Here are some of the events, competitions and training that we have taken part in recently.
