VE Day

We will be celebrating VE Day this Friday and as part of our virtual celebrations, we invite pupils, families and staff to join in any or all of the activities below. Unfortunately, whilst we would have loved to have had a big event in school, this isn’t going to be possible, so let’s try and make the best of the situation!

10am – Virtual Assembly on YouTube – Join Mr Abbott, Mrs Larkin and pupils in Year 6 for our special assembly, helping you to understand what VE Day means, with poetry, readings, film clips, prayers and singing

11am – Observe two minute’s silence with the rest of the nation

12.30pm (Or any other time you are able to) – Garden Tea Party – Join us for a Virtual Great British Garden Tea Party to celebrate VE Day. Perhaps make yourself a picnic and wave your flags/bunting at other families on your street! Make sure you keep to social distancing guidance though!

3pm: The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War Two. Take part by raising a glass, cheering and clapping on your doorsteps and saying: “To those who gave so much, we thank you.”

7pm – Virtual gallery of photos from VE Day celebrations – Send us your photos, to include any artwork that you have done for VE Day, the decorations you have made or pictures from your family tea party. Send them directly to Mr Abbott at no later than 12 noon on Saturday and they will appear in the gallery.

We have some printed resources for you to use if you would like. These include flags, bunting and other VE Day images to colour or paint. The school will be open for parents to come and collect what they would like between 9-2pm on Wednesday. Please ensure you maintain a 2m distance in the event of queueing. The resources are available below if you would prefer to download and print them. Thank you.
